Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in India: Gujarat leads with more than 1 million porting requests by May 2011

MNP porting requests in India crossed 10.57 million by May 2011….
·    MNP requests in India increased from 8.54 million in April 2011 to 10.57 million in May 2011, an increase of 23.7% in a month
·    As a result more than 1.8% of total active mobile users in India submitted request for change in mobile service provider since November 2010
·    Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows customer to change its service provider without changing the mobile number
·    Considering the fact that on an average 15 million new wireless subscribers are added in India, MNP has not been a game changer for the industry
Gujarat has highest number of porting requests while Haryana has highest proportion….
·    Gujarat with 1,052,582 people wanting to change their mobile operator has highest porting requests followed by Rajasthan with 825,432 and Karnataka (794,865)
·    Haryana with 4.4% mobile subscribers requesting change in wireless telecom service provider  experienced highest proportion of churn in India
·    Gujarat came 2nd with 3.0% churn followed by Karnataka with 2.6%
·    Among larger mobile telecom markets, Bihar and U.P. (East)  experienced lesser churn rate at 0.6% and 1.1%, respectively

  1. With MNP Process you can shift to another operator of your choice, but keep your old number. Best is, you don’t have to go through the trouble of informing all your friends & family that your number has changed - it stays the same. MNP India is implementing in different ways across the globe.
