Karnataka is witnessing slowdown in growth coupled with high churn rate …
· Mobile subscriber base of Karnataka increased by 12.67% during FY2012 to reach 55.71 million
· Active wireless subscriber base in Karnataka is 74.72% resulting in 41.63 million active mobile users
· Active subscriber base in Karnataka increased by 16.12% during FY2012 compared with national average of 19.00%
· By March 2012, Karnataka is 7th largest wireless telecom market in India accounting for 6.10% of total active subscriber base, slipped from 6th position during FY2011
· By March 2012, Karnataka registered 4,529,287 Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests, resulting into churn rate of 8.13% which is highest in India
Bharti Airtel rules with 34.6% market share ….
· In Karnataka wireless telecom market, Bharti leads with 27.6% share in terms of total subscriber base followed by Reliance (14.6%), Tata (13.1%), BSNL (12.4%) and Vodafone (12.1%)
· Airtel extends market share in terms of active subscriber base as 93.7% of its mobile subscribers are active compared with 64.7% for Reliance and 62.1% for Tata
· In terms of active subscriber base, Bharti has 34.6% market share followed by Vodafone (12.8%) and Reliance (12.7%)
· Vodafone benefits from higher proportion active users at 78.7% while BSNL loses due to only 53.5% active subscribers, warning bell from the PSU
· Airtel’s dominance is such that the gap between market shares of top 2 players (Bharti and Vodafone) is 21.8%
· Top 5 players accounts for 83.4% of Karnataka’s active mobile subscriber base
