India’s active mobile subscriber base decreased to 701.60 million in December 2012 from 707.28 million in November 2012…
·        Indian wireless telecom market ends December 2012 with subscriber base of 864.72 million, decline of 25.88 million, monthly growth rate of -2.91%
·        Overall mobile teledensity stands at 70.82% (Urban:  143.48%, Rural: 39.04%)
·        Urban to rural subscriber ratio is 61.65% to 38.35%
·        Rural market contracted by 5.10 million mobile subscribers at a monthly growth rate of
-1.52% while urban subscriber base declined by 20.78 million, growth of -3.75%
·        According to VLR data, India had 701.60 million active mobile subscribers. Hence, actual wireless teledensity in India is 57.46% by December 2012
·        In December 2012, about 2.94 million subscribers submitted Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests which is about 0.34% of total mobile subscriber base in India

Bharti Airtel leads with 24.6% share while players focus on active subscriber base ….
·        Bharti Airtel maintains its leadership position with 24.6% market share in India
·        Idea has largest proportion of active mobile users at 98.22% followed by Bharti Airtel (95.00%) and Vodafone (94.10%)
·        Due to large scale disconnections by Reliance i.e. 15.58 million; active subscriber base for Reliance improved from 77.06% in November 2012 to 86.41% in December 2012
·        Top 5 players in Indian wireless telecom industry accounts for 82.9% market share in terms of active subscriber base

U.P. (East) maintains No.1 position as Maharashtra inches closer…
·        U.P. (East) with 58.31 million active mobile subscribers is leading closely followed by Maharashtra with 58.12 million active mobile users
·        Andhra Pradesh (53.45 million) is third followed by Tamil Nadu (52.53 million) at fourth. Bihar with 48.16 million active mobile subscribers is the 5th largest market wireless telecom market in India
·        All telecom circles experienced negative subscriber growth during December 2012. While Tamil Nadu (2.15 million), Karnataka (2.02 million) and Andhra Pradesh (2.32 million) witnessed highest amount of disconnections
