India Wireless Telecom Market: January 2013

Higher proportion of active mobile users helped Maharashtra to dislodge U.P. (East) to regain top position

India’s active mobile subscriber base increased to 708.00 million in January 2013 from 701.60 million in December 2012 …
·        Indian wireless telecom market ends January 2013 with subscriber base of 862.62 million, decline of 2.10 million, monthly growth rate of -0.24%
·        Overall mobile teledensity stands at 70.57% (Urban:  142.10%, Rural: 39.26%)
·        Urban to rural subscriber ratio is 61.31% to 38.69%
·        Rural market expanded by 2.14 million mobile subscribers at a monthly growth rate of
0.65% while urban subscriber base declined by 4.24 million, growth of -0.80%
·        According to VLR data, India had 708.00 million active mobile subscribers. Hence, actual wireless teledensity in India is 57.92% by January 2013
·        In January 2013, about 4.20 million subscribers submitted Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests which is about 0.49% of total mobile subscriber base in India

Bharti Airtel leads with 24.7% share as players focusing on active subscriber base ….
·        Bharti Airtel maintains its leadership position with 24.7% market share in India
·        Idea has largest proportion of active mobile users at 98.55% followed by Vodafone (94.18%) and Bharti Airtel (95.12%)
·        State-owned BSNL+MTNL with only 53.50% of active mobile subscriber base is certainly struggling in highly competitive and dynamic market environment
·        Idea (2.45 million) and Airtel (2.28 million) led in terms of net subscriber additions during January 2013 while Tata (-1.87 million) and Aircel (-1.77 million) were worst performers
·        Top 5 players in Indian wireless telecom industry accounts for 83.2% market share in terms of active subscriber base

U.P. (East) lost No.1 position to Maharashtra driven by higher proportion of active mobile users…
·        Maharashtra with 59.01 million active mobile subscribers is leading followed by U.P. (East) with 58.31 million active mobile users
·        During January 2013, although Maharashtra added 97,781 mobile subscribers compared with 268,154 for U.P. (East); proportion of active users for Maharashtra increased from 87.04% to 88.15% while for U.P. (East) it declined from 81.02% to 80.51%
·        Consequently, Maharashtra captured top position in terms of largest wireless telecom market in India from U.P. (East)  
·        Andhra Pradesh (53.95 million) is third followed by Tamil Nadu (53.25 million) at fourth. Bihar with 53.95 million active mobile subscribers is the 5th largest market wireless telecom market in India

    thank you for sharing such valuable information.there is no website informing about the spectrum used by operator circle wise and Bandwidth of the spectrum(eg-how many slots in which frequency 900/1800 owned by a particular operator in a particular circle ).this will be more helpful for choosing a operator in particular area..
