·         While active wireless subscriber base in Bihar is 83.17% resulting in 50.15million active mobile users
·         Active subscriber base in Bihar increased by 8.36% during FY2013 compared with national average of 5.86%
·         Bihar fifth fastest growing market in India in terms of active subscriber base
·         By March 2013, Bihar is 5th largest wireless telecom market in India accounting for 6.94% of total active subscriber base


Bharti Airtel holds commanding position with 37.9% market share ….
·         In Bihar wireless telecom market, Airtel leads with 32.1% share in terms of total subscriber base followed by Reliance (15.8%), Vodafone (11.2%) Idea (10.0%) and BSNL (9.8%)
·         Bharti extends market share in terms of active subscriber base as 98.0% of its mobile subscribers are active
·         As a result, Airtel leads Bihar wireless market with 37.9% share followed by Reliance (16.3%) and Vodafone (13.3%)
·         Airtel’s dominance is such that the gap between market shares of top 2 players (Bharti and Reliance) is 24.6%
·         Notably, BSNL which has just 35.27% active mobile users ranks 7th with meager 4.2% market share
·         Top 5 players accounts for 85.9% of Bihar’s active mobile subscriber base

·        Mobile subscriber base of Assam increased by 1.26% during FY2013 to reach 14.38million, 3rd highest growth rate in India
·        Active wireless subscriber base in Assam is 86.38% resulting in 12.43million active mobile users
·        Active subscriber base in Assam increased by 6.16% during FY2013 compared with national average of 5.86%
·        By March 2013, Assam is 19th largest wireless telecom market in India accounting for 1.72% of total active subscriber base


Airtel gains advantage over Aircel with 31.1% market share….
·        Airtel leads the market with 31.1% share of active subscriber base in Assam followed by Aircel with 24.3%
·        Vodafone with 18.0% share is at 3rd spot followed by Reliance (16.9%) and BSNL (6.9%)
·        During FY2013, many smaller players including Tata DoCoMo exited Assam driven by regulatory hurdles, challenging operating environment and uncertainly about profitability of business model
·        Top 5 players accounts for 97.2% of Assam’s active mobile subscriber base indicating dominance of top players

·        Active wireless subscriber base in A.P. is 84.22% resulting in 54.2 million active mobile users
·        Active subscriber base in A.P. increased by 4.57% during FY2013 compared with national average of 5.86%
·        By March 2013, A.P. is 3rd largest wireless telecom market in India accounting for 7.50% of total active subscriber base
 
 
Bharti Airtel dominates fragmented market with 32.7% share ….
·        Andhra Pradesh mobile market is dominated by national leader, Bharti Airtel with 28.4% share of active subscriber base
·        Idea holds No.2 spot with 20.2% share, gap of more than 12.5% compared with Airtel
·        BSNL is at 3rd position with 11.6% market share while Reliance has 10.6% of active subscriber base in A.P.
·        Vodafone with meager 9.7% market share languishes at 5th spot

India Wireless Telecom Market: March 2013

Maharashtra and Bharti maintains top positions as focus shifts on active subscriber base

India’s active mobile subscriber base increased to 723.00 million in March 2013 from 712.49 million in February 2013 …
·        Indian wireless telecom market ends March 2013 with subscriber base of 867.80 million, addition of 6.14 million, monthly growth rate of 0.71%
·        Overall mobile teledensity stands at 70.85% (Urban:  140.67%, Rural: 40.23%)
·        Urban to rural subscriber ratio is 60.53% to 39.47%
·        Rural market expanded by 2.13 million mobile subscribers at a monthly growth rate of
0.63% while urban subscriber base increased by 4.02 million, growth of 0.77%
·        According to VLR data, India had 723.00 million active mobile subscribers. Hence, actual wireless teledensity in India is 59.03% by March 2013
·        In March 2013, about 2.87 million subscribers submitted Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests which is about 0.33% of total mobile subscriber base in India

Bharti Airtel leads with 24.7% share as players focusing on active subscriber base ….
·        Bharti Airtel maintains its leadership position with 24.7% market share in India
·        Idea has largest proportion of active mobile users at 98.86% followed by Vodafone (95.61%) and Bharti Airtel (95.00%)
·        State-owned BSNL+MTNL with only 53.45% of active mobile subscriber base is certainly struggling in highly competitive and dynamic market environment raising lot of concerns about their future
·        Reliance  (3.03 million), Vodafone (2.47 million) and Idea (2.32 million) led in terms of net subscriber additions during March 2013 while Sistema (-2.12 million) and Aircel (-0.80 million) were worst performers
·        Top 5 players in Indian wireless telecom industry accounts for 84.1% market share in terms of active subscriber base

 
Maharashtra maintains its leadership position closely followed by U.P. (East) …
·        Maharashtra with 60.67 million active mobile subscribers is leading followed by U.P. (East) with 60.24 million active mobile users
·        With 88.70% of active subscribers, Maharashtra is the most active circle while Tamil Nadu with 72.88% active users is least active
