Airtel leads two-way battle against Aircel as many smaller player exits
Assam has one of highest percentage of active mobile subscriber base in India…
· Mobile subscriber base of Assam increased by 1.26% during FY2013 to reach 14.38million, 3rd highest growth rate in India
· Active wireless subscriber base in Assam is 86.38% resulting in 12.43million active mobile users
· Active subscriber base in Assam increased by 6.16% during FY2013 compared with national average of 5.86%
· By March 2013, Assam is 19th largest wireless telecom market in India accounting for 1.72% of total active subscriber base
Airtel gains advantage over Aircel with 31.1% market share….
· Airtel leads the market with 31.1% share of active subscriber base in Assam followed by Aircel with 24.3%
· Vodafone with 18.0% share is at 3rd spot followed by Reliance (16.9%) and BSNL (6.9%)
· During FY2013, many smaller players including Tata DoCoMo exited Assam driven by regulatory hurdles, challenging operating environment and uncertainly about profitability of business model
· Top 5 players accounts for 97.2% of Assam’s active mobile subscriber base indicating dominance of top players
