India’s active mobile subscriber base increased to 723.00 million in March 2013 from 712.49 million in February 2013 …
·        Indian wireless telecom market ends March 2013 with subscriber base of 867.80 million, addition of 6.14 million, monthly growth rate of 0.71%
·        Overall mobile teledensity stands at 70.85% (Urban:  140.67%, Rural: 40.23%)
·        Urban to rural subscriber ratio is 60.53% to 39.47%
·        Rural market expanded by 2.13 million mobile subscribers at a monthly growth rate of
0.63% while urban subscriber base increased by 4.02 million, growth of 0.77%
·        According to VLR data, India had 723.00 million active mobile subscribers. Hence, actual wireless teledensity in India is 59.03% by March 2013
·        In March 2013, about 2.87 million subscribers submitted Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests which is about 0.33% of total mobile subscriber base in India

Bharti Airtel leads with 24.7% share as players focusing on active subscriber base ….
·        Bharti Airtel maintains its leadership position with 24.7% market share in India
·        Idea has largest proportion of active mobile users at 98.86% followed by Vodafone (95.61%) and Bharti Airtel (95.00%)
·        State-owned BSNL+MTNL with only 53.45% of active mobile subscriber base is certainly struggling in highly competitive and dynamic market environment raising lot of concerns about their future
·        Reliance  (3.03 million), Vodafone (2.47 million) and Idea (2.32 million) led in terms of net subscriber additions during March 2013 while Sistema (-2.12 million) and Aircel (-0.80 million) were worst performers
·        Top 5 players in Indian wireless telecom industry accounts for 84.1% market share in terms of active subscriber base

Maharashtra maintains its leadership position closely followed by U.P. (East) …
·        Maharashtra with 60.67 million active mobile subscribers is leading followed by U.P. (East) with 60.24 million active mobile users
·        With 88.70% of active subscribers, Maharashtra is the most active circle while Tamil Nadu with 72.88% active users is least active
·        Andhra Pradesh (54.20 million) is third followed by Tamil Nadu (52.77 million) at fourth. Bihar with 50.15 million active mobile subscribers is the 5th largest market wireless telecom market in India
